My
dear fellow Modernites,
Seeing as to how many Modernites are actually on the
Golf circuit and the enthusiasm for the game, a golf
tournament was an easy and unanimous selection for the
MSVV Alumni Association’s next big event. This
was a natural progression after the spectacular success
of the Modernites Ball which was held earlier this year
where about 400 Alumni were present.
The date for the event was set for the 24th of September
, 2005.
The response to the tournament was overwhelming and
instead of the 20 Alumni we expected, the number reached
45 in no time.
After looking around for suitable venues, the beautiful
and long course of Golden Greens was picked as the venue
for the Tournament. This course is of the highest standards
and also is located in beautiful and serene surrounding’s
where you can get away from it all.
To make the event memorable it was decided to present
every player with a sleeve of golf balls with the tournament
name printed on them and a high quality ‘T’
shirt as a memento. This gave birth to our very own
label ‘MSVV SPORT’. These ‘T’
shirts are available at all Alumni events for you to
wear proudly for your next round of golf or even otherwise.
As luck would have it, it began raining the evening
before the tournament and surprisingly carried on for
the whole of the next day. We received record rainfall
for September on that very day itself. Even this though,
was not enough to dampen the spirits of the Modernites
gathered for the round. In spite of the rain and the
overcast conditions I am proud to say that all but two
of the players landed up ready to battle with the course
and the elements. To add to the day Seventeen Golfers
from Modern School Vasant Vihar were also in the Fray
and distinguished themselves through some fine play.
A special mention to them for their enthusiasm and commitment
and to Mr. Seth for putting up this fine field of talent.
I must also mention that we had players from Class five
all the way through to class Twelve. Put this together
with the Alumni who ranged from the Class of 80 through
to the class of 98 and we had players ranging from 11
years old up to 44 years.
The enthusiasm and camaraderie of all presented made
the rain irrelevant. After a fine brunch of delicious
chicken pâté, cocktail sticks, Focaccia
Sandwiches, Mushroom rolls etc and despite the many
beers, the start of the tournament was right on schedule
at 1315 Hrs. The four balls were put together either
due to their similar handicaps or to the fact that they
were from the same batch. Needless to say it was a thoroughly
enjoyable round. Despite the challenging conditions,
wet fairways, thick rough and many lost balls every
single Modernite finished the round proving once again
that you just can’t keep a Modernite down.
Score cards were turned in at about 1745 onwards and
all were done by 1830. There were eleven trophies up
for grabs. Needless to say that each trophy was hard
fought for and could have gone to just about anybody.
To make sure each player had as good a chance as anybody
else, the scoring system was designed to allot you a
score based on your ‘On course Handicap’
for the day. This allowed each and every single player
to be in contention. Each trophy was also associated
with its own Prize/s.
After a close fought round, the final trophies went
to :

and in her own special way lends a sense of warmth and
belonging to us all every time we meet.
We all join in thanking these special teachers for
their unhesitating support. They complete the Alumni
family in a way no one else could.
Their presence at the Golden Greens club on the day
of the tournament is all the encouragement we need.
Thank you once again.
The tournament ended on a high note with the Prize
ceremony and even though the Alumni walked away with
most of the prizes, the Students of MSVV won the hearts
of all those present. I must at this time also thank
those parents who made the effort to bring their kids
out to the Course in the rain. Your presence there was
an encouragement to us all.
The tournament was followed up with a dinner and drinks
at ‘Nasha’ on MG Road. Over 55 Alumni were
present there. Tall stories and cocktails did the rounds.
Elaborate Snacks and drinks were served in a private
enclosure made for the MSVV Alumni. Dinner was served
at the Red Coral Restaurant and the revelry went on
well into the night. The crowd started gradually drifting
away after the bar was closed at 0230 AM in the morning.
Our Thanks to Manav and Prerna Bhargava who co-ordinated
the dinner and ably ensured that it was a success.
All in all it was a memorable day.
We also wish to express my gratitude to those Alumni
who were present there. We wish to add here that this
is your association. Your active participation and time
will help us drive it to greater heights.
For all those interested in volunteering their time,
please do join us for the next meeting and help us move
ahead to better things.
We hope to see more of you
at the next meeting and at our next event, MSVV Students
+ Teachers VS. Alumni Soccer, on the 14th of November
at MSVV.
